OVERALL PERSONALITY
Taryn is full of contradictions. She is shy, but often ends up making a fool of herself in order to hide it. She says stupid things and doesn't care, but will analyze her own every move if the situation is dire enough (and by dire, I mean it causes her paranoia for no reason). She takes unnecessary risks but always plays it safe when writing a paper. In short, her priorities are a mess.
More than anything, she cares about friendship. This may sound extremely corny, but it's true. Nothing matters more to her. She's basically been rejected by her foster father, so she doesn't really have any family to speak of. If she does anything (anything) to upset a friend, she will go all "I'm not worthy" on them and beg for mercy. Friends are family to her, so she doesn't ever want to lose them.
When it comes to people she isn't desperate to stay with, all bets are on the table (I'm not sure what that means, but they are. They totally are). She can have crazy mood swings, becoming a drama queen or comedienne (yes, that's how you spell it in the female form) one minute and becoming paranoid about what the person will say about her the next. Most of the time, she thinks, "You know what? This is exhausting. Screw the rest of the world- I just need me, my books, and my friends," but sometimes she desperately wants to please everyone and have forty-eight friends.[/ul]

OVERALL HISTORY Taryn was born to... well, that's the problem. She doesn't know much about her parents. She knows they were poor. She knows she was unplanned. That's all she knows. She travels around from home to home hoping to be adopted. Her first home was, uh, less than fun. The foster parents were the controlling type, which definitely does not suit her. She eventually learned that she could act out in order to get her home switched. What scares her about that is that she'll never be satisfied with one family, always thinking there's some other perfect family for her.
A few years ago (four, maybe?) she went with her most recent foster dad, Drew. He was okay, but way too controlling. After they got past the awkwardness stage (which usually lasts anywhere from one to four months), she began to speak up for herself. Yes, these were her friends, yes, she wanted to hang out with them, that kind of thing. It pissed him off to no end, and one day he sent her away to Wellington Academy.
That place was horrible. And illegal. They used things such as shock treatment, solitary confinement, and The Room (which was like solitary confinement, only for three days with other people) to "treat" delinquents or simple rebels. While she was in there, she found a way to apply for Camp Soleil. When she was accepted, Wellington had to let her go. She was free.[/ul]

This time, Taryn didn't fight when the Cause Cops (that's what she called them) came to take her away. This sort of thing happened quite a bit, and fighting just made it worse. She cautiously eyed one of the cops' tazers as she was led out of her dorm, bad memories creeping up on her. Just the thought of being tazed in her first week here made her want to rub her arm in pain- of course, she couldn't, seeing as both of her arms were being held. She rolled her eyes and walked in stride with the cops. She passed one of the other "patients" and muttered, "Third lost bet this week." She had made a bet with someone that she could go a week without getting thrown in The Room.
As they approached the Secret Wing (with the shock treatment and such), Taryn examined her clothing. They needed to be comfortable, because she was looking at at least three days in The Room. Hmm... A Don't Worry, Be Sneaky when Hiding The Evidence T-Shirt, sweatpants, and flip-flops. She could take off the stuff shoes when she got in the room, and as for the rest of her attire, she was set.
The cops showed no kindness in pushing her into the room with the greatest force possible. Remember those flip-flops? Yeah, they made her fall harder than she normally would have. She scoffed as they closed the door, leaving only a tiny light bulb as a light source. She examined her knees. Scratched, and bleeding minimally. She was okay.
